I really shouldn't have numbered this list since they aren't really in order and it probably would have been better titled "10 Favorite Fall Movies" because honestly, this list was harder to make than I thought it would be. I didn't have as many favorites this season as I thought I did. But, anyway, here we are! Here's a list of movies that take place during the fall season that I love to watch every year.
YOU'VE GOT MAIL
As soon as I'm ready for fall I start watching this one on repeat. I love that it goes through the seasons and the holidays are subtly sprinkled throughout. I love the chemistry between Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks and its such a sweet love story.
WHEN HARRY MET SALLY
Another Meg Ryan rom com set mostly in New York with the beautiful autumn scenery in the background. It's an oldie but a goodie.
HOCUS POCUS
This is a Halloween classic. It's really the only Halloween movie I watch anymore (I used to watch all the scary movies but my husband doesn't really like to watch them and I don't like to watch them alone.😂) This fall the old, one room theatre played Hocus Pocus on the big screen and it was so fun to watch it that way.
PRACTICAL MAGIC
This is a fun and semi scary movie about two sisters born into a magical family. I love Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in this I love the scenery - the cute little town, the big old house, all of it!
ADAMS FAMILY VALUES
Who didn't love this movie as a kid? Its fun and quirky and its a must watch every year.
PRISONERS
This one mainly made the list because it takes place on Thanksgiving Day but I love a good thriller and this one doesn't disappoint.
DAN IN REAL LIFE
I don't think this one takes place over the holidays at all but it has that festive feel to me. Widower Dan Burns (Steve Carell) struggles with raising his three daughters alone. They go to his parents' for a family get together and while he's out at a bookstore he meets someone. It's funny, it's sweet, and full of that festive family drama.😜
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
This is an old one and kind of quirky but it has all the crazy, big family drama that holiday movies tend to have. It takes place over the Thanksgiving holiday when the main character Claudia heads home to spend time with her dysfunctional family.
TOWER HEIST
This comedy centers around a heist that happens during the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade. It's funny, lighthearted, and centers around an unlikely hero.
THE BLIND SIDE
I love this movie and it's such a good one to watch in the fall - there's football, family, and Thanksgiving. Also, fun fact: I bought a white watch after it came out because Sandra Bullock's character wore one and I thought it looked so cute.😂
HONORABLE MENTION
SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE
Who doesn't love a good Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan rom com? This one takes place during the Christmas season but it's not overtly Christmas so it's a great love story that feels festive and can get you in the spirit.
Did any of your favorites make the list? What did I leave out?
