I honestly can't believe we're actually doing this. It doesn't even seem real yet but we should be breaking ground in about 2 months or less. We love our current home so, so much and I've cried a few times already when I think about leaving this place but I am excited for what's to come.
This doesn't look like much but it's our lot and where our future home will be. The woods will be cleared out a bit more but I love that our house will back up to trees and not someone else's house.
It's always been our plan to buy some land (5-10 acres) and one day build a home but we've been looking for land in our area for about 3 years and so far we haven't found the right place. About a month ago we discussed the subdivision we'll be building in and Jeremy was shocked when I wasn't against the idea. He knows my love for old houses runs deep and that I'm not the biggest fan of new developments but honestly something just felt right about it so we decided to set up a meeting. Everything kind of snowballed after that because in this particular subdivision they are in the final phase and there was only one lot we were interested in building on. We had to act quickly if it was something we really wanted.
With both of our houses (Our Loveland Home // Our 1870 Colonial) we've moved much sooner than we anticipated but we've been able to take advantage of a booming real estate market. They've both been wonderful places to live and have been stepping stones to what's next.
I have big plans to document this whole process because I'm looking forward to the challenge of making a new build have more character and making it our home. If you've built a home I'd love to hear what you're so happy you did and what you wish you would have done. I have a running list in the Notes on my phone. I'm trying to be as prepared as possible but also know that more than likely there will be something that doesn't go as planned.😌
